Hi Ann!
.Guess what! Do you remember last summer, when I talked about travelling to India or Sri Lanka? Today I turned that dream into reality. I have booked tickets. Crazy!
I couldn’t decide which country to visit, so now I’m flying to New Delhi in India, but I’ve booked my return from Colombo in Sri Lanka. So, I’ll be covering more than 3.000 km from one capital to another, and I have no idea how. Ha ha ha ha, that’s so typical of me. But I do have two months, or precisely 62 days, to make that journey, so I’m sure I’ll make it.
There are so many questions that are just bouncing through my head. The first one, of course, is how will people react when a woman travels alone. And in a wheelchair
And yes, I’m aware of that India isn’t the most accessible country—I’ve already figured that out. But hey, I’ve been talking about challenges for a long time, so bring it to me - lol.
And then there’s the second question. Trains in India—are they viable for me? Taking a bus must be even more difficult… Taxi across India? No, that seems too easy. Domestic flights? But then I wouldn’t be able to see the country, and I wouldn’t get to meet the people.
Sorry if I’m getting a bit personal, but the third question being about toilets and stomach bugs. Aren’t many toilets in India just a hole in the floor? How do I get past that? Worst case scenario, what if—or rather, when—I get sick and can’t find a toilet? “Rolling through India with a stomach bug—a comedy of wheels and woes." Maybe that could be a hilarious TV show,
As you can infer by now, I have quite a few things to figure out, but I have plenty of time. I’m not travelling until the end of September. And don’t worry—I’ll keep you updated on my planning progress. I am just about to grab an Atlas and brush up on some geography. Talk to you later!
